The cold weather is here and it is time to start preparing your skin for the harsh winter months. I don't know about you, but I get very dry skin in the winter.
Here are some tips that I use to help keep my skin looking it's best all season long.
1. Seek professional advice
You should always seek the advice of your doctor if you have any type of skin ailment, especially if you suffer from very dry skin. Your condition may be caused by something more severe than the weather and may need to be treated differently.
2. Moisturize!
Keeping your skin moisturized is very important. Look for soaps and bodywashes that don't contain alcohol, which can dry out your skin. Also, look for lotions and creams that are gentle on your skin and apply them immediately after bathing or showering so that they are more effective. You may also want to keep a small tube of lotion in your desk, briefcase or purse to apply when needed.
3. Wear Gloves
Always keep your hands protected from wind and cold. This will help keep your skin from drying and cracking, which can lead to itchy skin. Some people may be sensitive to wool. If you are, try wearing a thin pain of gloves under the wool gloves.
4. Don't Forget the Sunscreen
Sunscreen isn't just for summer. Skin is especially prone to sunburn during winter months when the sun glares off of snow. If you plan on being outdoors for any prolonged amount of time, be sure to apply some to your face and hands.
5. Stay Hydrated
It is especially important to drink plenty of fluids during the winter months to help keeping your body hydrated and healthy.
6. Get a Humidifier
Humidifiers will help bring moisture to your home and help keep your skin from drying out. You may want to invest in several small ones throughout your home in rooms that your family spends most of its time.
7. Protect Your Feet
Be sure to keep your feet moisturized and ready for the cold weather. Also, wear warm socks and change them if they become wet from snow.
8. Exfoliate
It is especially important to exfoliate your skin during the winter. Remove that dry skin from your face, body and feet. There are so many great products on the market to help keep your skin looking its best.
9. Don't Forget Your Hair
Be sure to condition your hair regularly to keep it from drying out. Also, wear a hat to protect your head and hair and to also help heat from escaping your body when you are outdoors.
10. Use Bath Smarts
Avoid super hot showers and baths that can dry out your skin. Instead keep the water lukewarm and incorporate oatmeal based body washes and soaps into your routine. Baking soda can also help your skin by relieving itch and dryness.
I hope these tips can help your skin look its best.
Disclosure: Always seek professional advice before starting any skin routine.
